The Public Interest Partners community and reinvestment strategy is designed to mobilize through the Center for Community Engagement at California State University, focus initially on San Jose, California and expand across the state. The process includes the public health, education, workforce and library systems. They can play vital roles in the co-creation of a comprehensive sustainability strategy in which diversity is a central community asset and equity and inclusion function are catalysts for change. Community Benefits Plans and Community Benefits Agreements in urban areas and across rural America can participate in a national expansion plan.
South Asians in Silicon Valley leads a program that records the South Asian experience and shares it with all Bay Area communities, which can assist in creating global awareness of Public Interest Partners. The program preserves the rich histories of South Asian experiences for generations to come and, most importantly, gives South Asians a sense of belonging at San José State University and beyond.
People from or with origins in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka comprise almost 20% of the Bay Area’s population and 60% of SJSU's international students. Though rarely told, their stories can be conveyed and illuminated through a community engagement media campaign.
